THE 11-10-02 FOUNDATION JUST TWO STEPS AWAY
FROM GOAL SET NEARLY THIRTY YEARS AGO
In 1997, one person treated two students to milkshakes. That 'three shakes' experience led to the start of The Brunch Bunch mentoring program. A year and a half later, that program led to the start of The 11-10-02 Foundation. As a nod to that 'three shakes' history, one of the original goals for the Foundation was to fund at least three scholarships &/or grants in every state in the USA. At the time, it seemed like a far-fetched goal for a small, local, volunteer-run group. In the years that followed, 11-10-02 continued to focus on funding grants & scholarships in its hometown region – while also pursuing that nationwide goal. In recent months, the organization's Board approved the funding for two grants to benefit youth in Kansas and funded a scholarship to assist a student in South Dakota. With those new grants and that new scholarship factored in, the Foundation has now funded – as of the printing of this newsletter – at least 3 grants &/or scholarships in 48 states. As a result, nearly 30 years after its start, 11-10-02 is two grants &/or scholarships (one more in Maryland, one more in Hawaii) away from achieving its goal to grow from '3 shakes' in one town to at least 3 grants &/or scholarships in every state in the USA.
