A 'NEW' SCHOLARSHIP TO START A NEW YEAR:

The 11-10-02 Foundation's 'calendar year' starts each summer. What better way to start a new year than to fund a new scholarship for a student in New Mexico! This is the second time we have funded a scholarship for a student in New Mexico. We have now funded grants & scholarships in more than 30 states & Washington D.C. Along the way, we have continued to fund scholarships for students in our  home state of Illinois – including new ones this summer.

HOW WE FIND OUR OUT-OF-STATE SCHOLARS

Sometimes, people ask how we find our out-of-state scholars since there is no way for a student to apply. Typically, we find & select nominators in other states. They are then given an opportunity to nominate a student who meets our Priorities & Criteria. That nominee is then given the opportunity to be considered for the scholarship. Instead of a traditional application, the student engages in an extended email Q&A over time with one of our volunteers. We frequently will also arrange a call between the nominee & one of our current volunteers or Scholars. Our hope is this process gives us the opportunity to get a more complete impression of a student (instead of relying solely on things like a well-rehearsed essay). It also gives the student a chance to demonstrate qualitative strengths like Promptness (instead of being judged solely by quantitative numbers like GPA & test scores).

FROM BRUNCH BUNCH KIDS
   TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

We recently welcomed two young professionals, Colby & Sir, to our Board. Their involvement with our efforts stretch back many years. As a 5th grader, Colby joined the Brunch Bunch Mentoring Program. When he graduated high school, he received one of 11-10- 02's scholarships. As an adult, he decided to 'pay forward' the support by raising money to help fund a new scholarship. As a teen, Sir joined the Brunch Bunch. We gave him scholarships for both college & law school. As an adult, he helped fund a new scholarship. Welcome aboard, Colby and Sir!
