'NEXT GENERATION' HELPS
THE 11-10-02 FOUNDATION
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The 11-10-02 Foundation grew out of the belief that young people can make a positive difference in the world. Twenty-three years since the organization’s start, the original volunteers know they are not so young any more. To continue to be a place where young people can make a difference, the organization has established a role in its grantmaking process for a new generation of volunteers -- junior researchers.

The JRs are teens who research local nonprofits online and then send in their written recommendations
to our Board. In turn, our Board considers those nonprofits for potential grants funded by our Foundation.
And the JRs’ input truly is valued and considered. In a number of instances, the nonprofits recommended by the JRs have already been approved by our Board to receive grants.
For the students serving as Junior Researchers, their research leads them to learn about nonprofits making a difference in communities around the country. And in general, it gives them a chance to learn more about the philanthropic process. If needed, it also enables them to rack up ‘service hours’ (a requirement at many schools). At the same time, it does not interfere with other activities on the teens’ busy schedules because there are no ‘set’ hours. The JRs do the online research at their own pace and from their own homes.

The JRs’ only responsibilities involve doing the research and making their recommendations.
They do not need to raise any funds to participate. Our current JRs live in different regions
around the United States -- including the Northeast, Midwest and Deep South.
