IN THEIR OWN WORDS: Parents
Over the years, The 11-10-02 Foundation's Founder, Board & Volunteers have received many fun, memorable, kind & grateful notes from the parents of students who were in our Brunch Bunch Mentoring Program, who have received our grants & scholarships & who have volunteered with our organization. We use this page to share a brief sample of excerpts from those notes -- a chance for you to hear from the parents of Brunch Bunch Kids, 11-10-02 Foundation Scholars & Student Volunteers in their own words as they reflect on our mentoring program & scholarships &/or a Foundation event they attended. "...The dinner was great and the kids were terrific. Thank you again for inviting me...Finally, thank you for allowing my son to be a part of the Brunch Bunch. It has been a great experience for him and he has met some great kids that he otherwise would have never known and eaten and played [music] at places where he would have never gone....It's not much, but I plan to send $25 this week. And I plan to spread the word to even more people that I know about The 11-10-02 Foundation story...." - Ms. M

"I want to thank you again for the wonderful, magical evening. It seems that Greg is as much magician as humanitarian. He is amazing! I am still reeling from the evening. I was crying through most of the presentations. {I was] simply pushed over the edge with [the surprise news that my son was receiving a $5,000 scholarship]! This is more than money to him. I think you know that and for that, I thank you." - Ms. P

"I want to thank you for allowing me to experience what I can only call an evening of grace. When we walked into the restaurant, I sort of experienced something cold -- extremely formal.... To my surprise, there were no name tags, no list to be checked, no pre-selected tables. This promoted a spirit of comfort. We were greeted at the entrance by a nice young woman, given a program and invited to sit at the table of our desire. I allowed my son to take charge. He escorted me through the tables to the front of the seating area where the stage was... There he saw & greeted [one of the Foundation Board Members] with a handshake -- another proud moment. Some people won't understand how watching their male child formally greet -- interact -- with people other than his peers could make a single female parent's heart sing. After my son was greeted, I was greeted [warmly]. This made me feel especially welcome.... As we began to view the room for two seats, table #1 was calling our name. There were four people sitting there already and we asked if we could join. We were welcomed with big smiles as we took our seats and introduced ourselves.... We had great conversation before and during dinner....Learning about each other in the spirit-filled atmosphere -- an atmosphere with no judgment, where you have no pre-profile on the person you're talking to, was great. It allowed me to be me-- without wondering if these people would accept me if they knew I didn't have a Masters degree. Dinner was marvelous....During dinner, the conversation kept flowing. We even laughed together as a meatball disappeared up my sleeve while I was trying really hard to get it out of the serving dish...The band, [comprised of local students], was wonderful....Having Brunch Bunch Kids host the event and present the scholarships to each other was great. They did a wonderful job. My hat is off to you for giving them chances to interact in such a special way...The one young lady at our table, she stated she was from an area where drugs and teen pregnancy were statistically high. She was determined not to become one of those statistics. She made me soooo proud! I saw myself in her. As we were driving home, my son stated that he is determined to be worthy of receiving such recognition as the young people had received tonight. That made me glad. That reinforced your belief that introducing positive people and positive things into the lives of others can and will make a difference. I did not mean for this letter to be this long. My heart is filled with joy as I replay the events of last night....[I hope] the story will never end." - Ms. A
