FROM BRUNCH BUNCH KID TO YOUNG PHILANTHROPIST THE NEXT GENERATION:
When The Brunch Bunch Mentoring Program (1997) & The 11-10-02 Foundation (1998) began, our hope was to prove young people can make a difference. 17+ years later, the kids who benefitted from those initial efforts are now adults, and many of them have been trying to make a difference, too. In some cases, they have collaborated with the Foundation to do it. One recent inspiring example is Brandon. Over the summer, this Brunch Bunch Kid-turned-young professional established a scholarship fund with The 11-10-02 Foundation. To raise money for it, he asked guests at his housewarming party to make a donation in lieu of giving him a gift. Many of his friends, family & colleagues contributed to his efforts. 100% of their financial donations – plus a $1,000 matching grant from our existing funds -- will be used to fund a series of new scholarships. To learn more about Brandon's efforts, click here. Other Brunch Bunch Alums have done &/or are doing similar things. It is one of the most rewarding chapters in the history of our organization: students in our mentoring program evolving into young philanthropists.
DYNAMIC DOZEN
Last year, we funded 8 college scholarships for students involved with First
Literacy in Massachusetts. First
Literacy selected three of the Scholars last year. The remaining five were recently chosen. We
felt First Literacy took the process so seriously that our Board approved
funding 4 more scholarships for them to give out in the near future. It has
been great to see the representatives of an organization work hard to select
deserving students for our scholarships when given the opportunity.
SURPRISE SCHOLAR |
family ties |
Before 11-10-02 made the decision to fund the initial 8 scholarships
for some of First Literacy’s students, we spoke to some of First Literacy’s former
students to get their input on their program. One of those former students made
such a positive impression that The 11-10-02 Foundation’s Board recently funded
an additional surprise scholarship for her!

It’s
always nice for us to see The 11-10-02 Foundation Scholars become friends, but a
couple of our newest Scholars on the East Coast have a truly unique bond. It turns out they are relatives. Now, that is a small world. Hard work and positive attitude must run in
the family! Congrats to this
hard-working duo!

7 GIRLS 4 SCIENCE
We made a donation to an organization that supports young women with an
interest in Science. Our donation funded college scholarships for six students in
the program. The program’s leaders got the chance to choose the recipients. The
first four Scholars were recently selected. The remaining two will be chosen in
the near future. In addition, 11-10-02 has funded a 7th scholarship --
to cover the cost for a younger student to participate in that organization’s
Science-based program for girls.
